EPL-Duty OVERVIEW
There are 4 steps here:
1) Installing the EPL to your gun.
2) Installing the battery.
3) Configuring the toggles to fit your needs.
4) Learning the toggle functionality and training to master it.
So, let’s work through that, get you set up, and out into the field.
Before you go any further, please take time to fully understand the required safety here:FOLLOW ALL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES WHILE HANDLING YOUR WEAPON
AND MOUNTING YOUR EPL TO YOUR PISTOL

•Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.

•Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
•Keep your finger off the trigger until you have made a conscious decision to fire.
•Be sure of your target and your targets environment.

INSTALLATION OF EPL TO YOUR PISTOL
EPL-Duty was designed for the most common full-size and compact duty pistols on the
market. As such, each EPL ships with mounting for the most common pistols on the
market.
- Sig
- 1913
- Glock

We use a simple but very robust and secure lug system to lock the EPL to your pistol.
This is not a quick-detach system. Cloud Defensive deliberately chose to ensure a
positive and secure lock-up to your pistol rather with the knowledge that a pistol-
mounted light is integral equipment that does not leave the host weapon under normal
circumstances once installed.

You must run the correct mount for proper performance. If you use the wrong mount on
the gun, do not expect proper performance.
EPL Installation Procedure

1) Confirm your weapon is unloaded and lock your slide to the rear
2) Unscrew the side plate of the EPL mount.
3) Insert the desired mounting lug into the channel
4) Re-attach the side plate with the screw. Leave it loose enough for installation on
your pistol.
5) Put the EPL on your pistol, ensuring the lug is seated properly in the channel on
your pistol frame.
6) Apply a small amount of blue Loctite to the threads of the clamp screw
7) Tighten the clamp screw to 25 inch/pounds.
8) Allow 24hrs for the thread-locking compound to cure.
9) Installation is now complete.

BATTERY INSTALLATION AND INFORMATION
EPL Battery Installation Procedure:

1) Confirm your weapon is unloaded and lock your slide to the rear
2) Unscrew the light head from your EPL
3) Insert the battery with the POSITIVE battery terminal facing forward, towards the
muzzle of the weapon.
4) Screw the light head onto the EPL, ensuring it’s fully seated and hand-tight.
5) Installation is now complete.

The EPL was designed and optimized to use our 18350 Protected USB-C
Rechargeable Battery. It will perform great with that battery. Use of other 18350
Batteries may or may not work as those batteries vary greatly in size and performance.
Some are too short to work in the EPL. Others are just fine. If you need more batteries,
they are for sale on our website. www.clouddefensive.com
If you have questions, please email us at support@clouddefensive.com
Your EPL is NOT capable of running a CR123 battery. The EPL is too powerful for that
battery.
Your battery MUST be installed with the positive terminal facing the light head/muzzle of
the weapon. Incorrect installation will result in a light that does not work.

WARNING: Use of “strobing” with the momentary function of the remote switch can
cause a seizure in persons with photosensitive epilepsy.

WARNING: This is the most advanced pistol light available. One of those critical (but
unseen) advancements is our ability to create a substantially better “heat sync” to aid in
performance. Heat sync helps the system cool. The increased heat is generally a non-
issue for the end-user given the location on the pistol. But this light can become hot
enough during certain conditions that it could trigger a “drop response”.

WARNING: EPL allows the end-user to change the batteries from the front (by
removing the head). BE ADVISED: the muzzle of the weapon will be pointing up
towards you when you load the battery. All gun safety rules MUST be observed.
BATTERY WARNING

The supplied 18350 USB-C battery has protections built in. But it must be handled
properly and safely. Additionally, a word on unprotected 18350 batteries:
Buyer has read the warnings on the product page(s) and clearly understands the
potential dangers of using unprotected and protected cell batteries. Unprotected and
protected cell batteries have more capacity and current capability than a protected cell
battery. Buyer understands that unprotected and protected cell batteries provided by
seller are only to be used in light applications manufactured by seller. Buyer
understands that use of unprotected and protected cell batteries can result in property damage, serious bodily injury and/or death. All unprotected and protected cell batteries
can explode, catch fire, and potentially cause injuries if pierced, cut, smashed, short-
circuited, burned, disassembled, recharged, dropped or used or stored in extreme
temperatures. For performance purposes, the unprotected cell batteries provided by
seller do not contain a built-in fault or heat protection. Buyer understands unprotected
and protected cell batteries should be stored or kept in a protected casing or in the
proper light application and should not be kept or stored loose in a pocket, purse,
backpack or otherwise and should be kept away from metal objects to prevent short
circuiting. Buyer understands when not in use, the unprotected and protected cell
batteries should always be stored in a secure, dedicated, and non-conductive battery
case. Buyer understands if an unprotected and protected cell battery is damaged in any
way, buyer should stop using said battery immediately. Do not charge the unprotected
and protected cell battery unattended. Immediately discontinue use of the unprotected
cell battery if, while using, charging or storing said battery, the unprotected and
protected cell battery emits an unusual smell, feels hot, changes color or shape, or
appears abnormal in any way. Only use the unprotected and protected cell battery
charger provided by seller to charge the unprotected cell battery. Always keep the
unprotected and protected cell batteries away from children.

TOGGLE INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION

Unlike other lights on the market, you are no longer forced to accept a given toggle. The
EPL was designed to allow you to configure the toggles as you prefer. We have shipped
your EPL with a “short” set and a “long” set of toggles. There are other toggles in
development and we are actively working with aftermarket companies on yet more
options for you. Whatever toggles you end up with, the installation procedure is the
same.

Toggle Installation Procedure
1) Confirm your weapon is unloaded and lock your slide to the rear.
2) Using an Allen key, unscrew the toggle
3) Remove the toggle. CAREFULLY.
4) Remove the very small spring from the toggle.
5) Install the very small spring on the new toggle. It will be passively retained via
friction. That assists in proper installation.
6) Insert the new toggle into the toggle channel
7) Insert the toggle screw. Tighten the screw making it hand-tight. There is no
required torque spec on this screw. The design ensures the screws bottom-out.
Tighten until you feel that screw bottom out.
8) Installation of this toggle is now complete.

The toggles of the EPL were designed with proper ergonomics and real-world-use in
mind. Our switching is far superior to anything else under those conditions. Activation is
achieved by applying forward pressure to the upper part of the switch. This is
ergonomically favored with modern thumbs-forward pistol grips. It’s faster. It’s more
reliable.

Toggle Functionality

EPL features both momentary activation and constant-on activation.
Momentary: Press the toggle and hold for as long as you want. The light will be in
momentary on. When you release the toggle, the light will turn off.
Constant: The most common mode you’re likely to use in real-world application. Tap
either toggle and the light will turn on. To turn the EPL off, simply tap a toggle once
again.

Pro Tip 1: the EPL was designed with circuitry that deliberately allows you to use either
toggle to activate or deactivate the light. That means you can turn the EPL on with one
toggle and turn it off with another. It seems obvious but its not a common thing on other
lights. It’s a critical feature that we did not ignore.

Pro Tip 2: You can run any combination of toggles on the left/right of the gun based on
preference. The most common is to run the shorter toggle on your strong side. That
allows strong-side light activation, keeping your trigger finger further from the trigger
than any other light on the market will allow for. The shorter toggle requires a more
conscious decision to activate the light, forcing you to think about what you are doing. It
is perfectly co-aligned with good trigger finger discipline. This is demonstratably safer.
Pro Tip 3: It’s obvious but it needs to be said: The EPL is a new piece of equipment.
Like all your life-saving tools, it requires acclimation and training. The performance is
amazing. The ergonomics are addictive. The EPL spoils you. But it’s still new to you, so
treat it as such.

WARRANTY
We stand immovable behind our products. We manufacture world-class, professional-
grade tools. EPL is no exception. There are a few individual details on the warranty that
we should discuss:
Broken lens: These are hard-use tools. We use thicker glass on our lens’ than anybody
else around. But it’s still glass and glass can still break. If you break the lens on your
EPL through normal use, we will replace that. Cloud has your back. We may or may not
ask you to send us the broken light head.

Also, know that glass does degrade from muzzle blast. If your glass degrades from use,
that is not a warranty-eligible issue. We recommend one of several methods to protect
the lens when you are training or shooting in higher volumes. It’s easy to avoid glass
degradation from muzzle-blast.

Broken toggles: If your toggles break for any reason, we will send you new toggles
free of charge. Throw the broken toggles in the trash and keep going.
Broken tail cap housing: Should that happen, this will require you sending your light to
us. We will repair it and return it to you as soon as possible.

Other: Any other issues that arise will be a case-by-case basis and our Customer
Service team will help you with that. If you have an issue that falls outside the scope of
the covered warranty repair, you’ll find the repair pricing to be very palatable.
Compromised electrical system from incorrect batteries. The afore-mentioned
instructions and packaging of the unit itself makes it abundantly clear that you can only
use an 18350 battery. If you use a non-18350 battery, you can potentially compromise
your light. So, know your equipment, know the condition of your equipment, be smart
and do not put incorrect batteries into this system. If you have questions, contact us.
We’re always here to help.

Normal wear and tear. These are tools. Cosmetic damage and standard wear/tear
from use is known with this kind of equipment. If you think something is excessive, let
us know, and we’ll evaluate it. But we have to reserve the right to reject a warranty claim
on cosmetic issues. Again, it’s a tool. It gets used. It shows signs of use. That’s the
highest compliment for all of us here.

Compromised electrical system from water ingress. Your light is waterproof and
even submersible. But if you take the head or tail off and get water inside the
disassembled components, the electrical system can become damaged. We can’t
warranty that. So keep the light fully assembled when exposed to water and you’ll be
fine. If our seals fail and water damage is sustained because of those seals failing, we
will absolutely warranty that.

Compromised electrical system from unauthorized disassembly. Some parts of the
EPL are permanently sealed during the manufacturing process. If you disassemble the
light head or tail cap, your warranty is void. So do not intentionally take your light apart
beyond normal installation or maintenance.
Simply said, big boy rules apply with the warranty. If you follow those rules, we have
your back. Forever. If you mess it up due to negligent operating procedures or
unauthorized disassembly, that is on you, and the warranty is void.

In the event that you void the warranty, contact us at support@clouddefensive.com and
tell us what happened. We will be happy to repair your light at the lowest price possible.

WARRANTY CLAIMS
If you need to send your EPL in for a tune-up, email us at support@clouddefensive.com
and identify the issue with the light. You must be issued an RMA# prior to shipping.
